Abstract

"This book provides an overview of the innovative, arts-based research method of Body Mapping and offers a snapshot of the field. The review of body-mapping projects by Boydell and her colleagues confirms the potential research and therapeutic benefits associated with body-mapping. The book describes a series of body mapping research projects that focus on populations marginalised by disability, mental health status, and other vulnerable identities. Chapters focus on summarising the current state of the art, its application with marginalised groups, analytic strategies for body mapping, highlighting body mapping as a creation and a dissemination process, emerging body mapping techniques including web-based, virtual reality, and wearable technology applications, and measuring the impact of body maps on planning, practice and behaviour. Contributors and editors include interdisciplinary experts from the fields of psychology, sociology, anthropology and beyond"--

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

"Media Crossroads is an anthology that examines space and place in film, television, video games, and other media via critical intersectional lenses and other interpretive strategies. The eighteen essays in this volume draw from and build upon research on gender and space across numerous disciplines and situate such studies in conversation with research on sexuality, race, ethnicity, age, class, ability, and other domains of identity as they relate to space. The contributors not only consider the way screens produce intersections between and among various identities through spectatorship, play, and social media, but they also focus on how representations of space in film and media address matters of oppression, discrimination, privilege, and inequity"--

Abstract

Visual cognitive processes have traditionally been examined with simplified stimuli, but generalization of these processes to the real-world is not always straightforward. Using images, computer-generated images, and virtual environments, researchers have examined processing of visual information in the real-world. Although referred to as scene perception, this research field encompasses many aspects of scene processing. Beyond the perception of visual features, scene processing is fundamentally influenced and constrained by semantic information as well as spatial layout and spatial associations with objects. In this review, we will present recent advances in how scene processing occurs within a few seconds of exposure, how scene information is retained in the long-term, and how different tasks affect attention in scene processing. By considering the characteristics of real-world scenes, as well as different time windows of processing, we can develop a fuller appreciation for the research that falls under the wider umbrella of scene processing.
